Rachelle Gahan Landscape Architecture is a boutique landscape architecture business based in Carpinteria CA.
Each project is as unique as the client and sites themselves.
Located on the bluffs of Carpinteria, on the ocean side of Procore Technologies, this project restored the native habitat while creating safe and beautiful ocean viewing platforms along the Carpinteria bike path. The plant palette uses California coastal sage scrub natives, thriving with little-to-no support. Blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape its hard to tell where the boundaries of the project lie. The result is a beautiful, sustainable, site appropriate environment for the people at Procore and bike path users to enjoy.
Modern and sophisticated at every detail this backyard transformation serves as a great space for entertaining as well as a relaxing getaway for its owners. The exotic Australian and South African plants, well adapted to our mediterranean climate, accentuate and soften the bold lines of the hardscape. While the multi-tiered water feature serves as a strong line, defining the space. The views of the landscape beyond are still enjoyed making the space feel larger than it really is.
This project was designed for a family living in Carpinteria who wanted an outdoor space that would serve as an extension of their newly purchased condo. "With our climate we really want to be outside as much as possible, and we love plants, so we don't want wall to wall concrete, we want greenery, a lot of greenery". Though the space is small, or rather intimate, we balanced the useable hardscape with plantable softscape to give a lush oasis for the family to spend their time outside. Whether they want to dine alfresco, sit by the fire with friends, or a quiet reading space, this intimate garden gives our clients a functional space and welcome extension to their home.
Vibrant with something to discover at every turn. This lush, colorful and edible landscape contains a plethora of fruit trees. Apples, oranges, lemons, limes, plum, apricot, persimmon and pomegranate weave throughout the colorful perennials in this garden. With a love for color, art and gardening these owners guided me as we transformed the bare lot into a a vibrant space to enjoy throughout the year.
Clean, sophisticated and easy. This project incorporated a 19' swim spa, fireplace and arbor for family get-togethers and relaxing in its beautiful location on the bluffs of Goleta. Providing ample room for lawn activities and plants that required very little care made this project align with its owners intentions.
"When one tugs at a single thing in nature he finds it attached to the rest of the world". John Muir
